Hi All!

It's time!  The Shorts Paddle is a bit earlier this year - Friday 4/29.  I'm lining up Schoonhoven (the gorgeous "cabin" with the wrap around deck, fire pit, heated floors, granite showers, etc...), contacting the people with the sea kayaks, rounding up Cheech and Chong, and Pete's looking into life insurance for me.  :)

I'd love it if all of you could join in on the fun.  Most of you know the routine, but for those of you who don't, here's a probable itinerary:
  • Thursday 4/28, high noon - depart from Rochester.
  • approx 4pm, pull out of Empire with sea kayaks on the roof
  • approx 5pm, parallel park in front of Shorts Brewery in Bellaire
  • approx 5:05pm, sip on some Magician.  Or Huma.  Yummmm.  Watch the kayaks drive by, and check out the competition, I mean companionship for the next day.
  • approx 8pm, settle in at the cabin, and pack up for the morning.
  • Friday, 4/29, approx 5:30am, up to prepare for the day.
  • 7am, hit the water for a beautiful 27 mile tour through some of northern Michigans most beautiful waters, including Lake Bellaire, Torch Lake, Lake Skegemog, and Elk Lake.
  • Lunch will hopefully be delivered on the other side of Torch by some awesome land support!
  • approx 5:30pm, exit the water on the other side of Elk Lake feeling exhilerated!
  • approx 6pm - enjoy some rarer Shorts libations inside the brewing Elk Rapids facility
  • Head back to the cabin and/or Shorts for dinner and fun.
  • Saturday, 4/30, enjoy the day - return the kayaks, paddle?  eat breakfast at my favorite place in Cedar?  geocache?  swim?  hot tub?  frisbee golf?  sleep?  read?  celebrate Shorts anniversary in the evening with live music, good food, delicious beer, and fun people.
  • Alternative Saturday Plans: Anyone interested in ANOTHER paddle is invited to the CCB trip on the Boyne River outside Boyne Falls, MI (40 Miles NE of Bellaire, MI). See details here - http://www.burntcabin.org/ccb/2011/Apr/index.shtml
  • Sunday morning, head home.
  • I think there may be some swimming involved too...

For planning purposes, I'd like a head count soon.  Please let me know if you are in.  When you plan to come, leave, and if you are paddling for none, part or all of it, and if you'll need a rental.
