Tom's report from 2009!:
Sure wish you could have been with us today because it was special. To begin with, the early predictions had been for a lousy weekend, but the bad weather stayed south of us so we had temperatures in the 60's and mostly sunshine. Wendy bailed on me, but Dennis is almost always willing, as was the case this time. We left our place about 9:45 and the put-in was approximately fifteen miles from here, traveling a nice country road with the views of the covered bridges that I sent to you earlier. The take-out was 7.5 road miles farther down, on the edge of Plain City.

We had to portage around deadfalls about 100 yards from the put-in so we thought we were in for a long day ... it was the last time that we had to get out of the canoe. We had a lot of beautiful scenery, but the wildlife was the best. I know that I will forget some creatures, but as I recall we
saw: Baltimore Orioles, many Blue Herons, ducks of all kinds, sandpipers, a weasel, numerous turtles, a fox, deer on two occasions, friendly dogs that apparently heard us and maybe smelled our food while we ate lunch, a white heron ... have not consulted my book yet but it was probably an albino or a great white (if you can zoom in on pic 1442, you can see it), and a buffalo (I told Dennis that when we tell Wendy about the Buffalo she will say, OK, now I know that you are lying). So Dennis does not have to weigh in, it is really an American Bison, but I prefer Buffalo ... and yes, it was fenced in.

It ended up being exactly 9 river miles (we can make a CCB trip farther if you wish) and our moving time was about 3 1/2 hours, ending up back here by 4:00. Our moving average was 2.6 ... a nice leasurely float. Hope we can take it with all of you in the near future, but I cannot promise all of the wildlife opportunities. Tom
