Using the same starting point of Detroit, Mesick is 16 miles and 11 minutes further than last year's destination, Paris. We are trading facilities like showers for superior river, sand, and camping.

Vision We will camp on the shores of the mighty Manistee River where it widens into a lake behind the Hodenpyle Dam outside of Mesick, Michigan. We will literaly have our tents on the lake shore - see the picture above. On Saturday morning, the canoe livery will pick us up by bus and deliver us upstream for a 5 hour float through some of the most beautiful country in northwest Michigan. The river winds through beautiful and wild woods with few cabins. The river starts small and grows as we get closer to camp. We will pass under M-115 where the river begins to widen into Hodenyple Pond. The entire river is sand and we'll find many places to get out and explore. You can take as much time as you want on the river because we canoe back to our campsite. After dinner, we can take the boats out for a moonlight float on Hodenple Pond or follow Buckbee for a swim across the pond under the moonlight.
