Mark your calendars for the 2nd annual rafting trip on the Yough! Last year ScottB and DougB were the only two that made the trip - and we'd like to have others join us this year!
Pictures: See em here!
Who: Doug Buckbee, Nick Kline, Scott Borchelt, Rodney Kuncho, Matt Hash, others?...
What: rafting the lower-Yough on Saturday [class III - IV] and canoeing the middle-Yough [class I - II] on Sunday.
Where: Youghiogheny River in Ohiopyle, PA
When: September 15 - 17
Overview: arrive at the campground Friday evening - set up camp and hang out by the fire -- for those that arrive early enough. Saturday morning we'll go out to breakfast on our way to check in with the outfitter. The rafting trip provides about 5 hours of whitewater fun and lunch is provided. On our way back to the campground we'll stop by the pub below the Ohiopyle House Cafe for a few barley pops - wings and college football. Then we'll go back to the campground and hang out until dinner. When we're ready, we'll hike from the campground to Ohiopyle for dinner at the Ohiopyle House Cafe -- it's a short hike and the return hike under the stars is well worth the effort.
On Sunday morning we'll pack up camp and head back to Ohiopyle - grab a quick bagel and cup of coffee at the outfitters shop and canoe the middle-Yough. This section of the river is calm compared to the lower-Yough -- but still presents a challenging float in a canoe. We should be off the river and heading home by early afternoon.
For those that don't want to raft on Saturday or canoe on Sunday, the area offers hiking, biking and site-seeing options -- including Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water.
Camping: Ohiopyle State Park

Outfitter: Laurel Highlands River Tours -- we'll use a "guide escorted tour". The cost will depend on how many people are in our group - and what boat option you want. Prices and explanation of the boats are on the website. Boat options are:
Saturday [class III - IV] - raft, duckie or Aire Force. Scott & I highly recommend the Aire Force.
Sunday [class I - II] - canoe or duckie. Canoes are only recommended for paddlers with experience.

Food Plans:
Saturday morning - eat breakfast in Ohiopyle on our way to the outfitters facility
Saturday lunch - riverside lunch provided with our trip
Saturday dinner - Ohiopyle House Cafe.
Sunday morning - grab a bagel and coffee at the outfitter.
Please let me know if you're interested by July 31st so we can get an idea of how many will be in our group. I'll send out more details after we know our groups size.
Thanks... Doug
