May CCB - The Platte River & The Betsie River

May 7, 2005 - Platte River

Attendees: Matt Brown, Scott Borchelt

See pictures here

We camped at the Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground east of Honor, Michigan. The cool part of this campground is that the Platte River wraps around many of the campsites. This is where we put in for our trip. We arrived in camp around 11pm, set up, and spent the rest of the night bsing around the fire. Breafkfast in the morning before the paddle included hashbrown potatoes, sausage, and onion/pepper/mushroom scrambled eggs all cooked in one huge pan.

We woke up to a cold misting rain but it quickly faded to a grey sky - Before noon, the sky cleared and we had sunshine for the rest of the day.

We camped at High Banks above the Great Bear Creek on Saturday night. We said goodbye to Matt Brown and welcomed Darrin to the campsite. The night was clear with diamond bright stars - dinner included pork tenderloin, baked squash, and roasted corn on the cob. We passed a few PBRs around and slept this night fireside.
