Two miles north of Mesick on M-37.

Camping:
Red Pine something er other. Its easy to find. From the south, Take 75 North. After going over the big Zillwauke bridge, look for M-10 West. Follow this past Clare to M-115 North. About 15 miles North of Cadillac, you'll come to Mesick, the mushroom capital of Michigan. Drive through town and you'll drive down a hill into the Manistee river valley. Over the bridge on the left side you'll see a road called Beers. (cool, eh?) The first dirt road to the left immediately after turning on to Beers is the campground. Follow the dirt road all the way to the back and you'll find us camped back there somewhere right along the Hodenpyle Dam Pond.

This trip should be great if the weather holds for us. However, Kelly KLINE is atttending which always means rain. I'll give you a forecast as we get closer. Expect to see highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's.

The plan is to arrive in Mesick at a campground ON the Hodenpyle Dam pond on Friday night or Saturday AM. We will mess around during the day, go two-tracking, exploring, swimming and cook up a feast Saturday afternoon. We hit the water at 6PM and will paddle back to our tents around midnight. We'll have a big bonfire when we return and awake Sunday morning whenever we want.

This is a 4.5 hour trip from Detroit. Make sure you bring a large Lantern, and have devised a way to strap it to the front of your canoe. You will want a shield to block the light from your eyes so it reflects forward - downriver. If you need some ideas, send me an email or give me a call.

Or send a message to canoe at burntcabin dot org and all the Camper's will receive the message.

I'll be in touch later about menu's and other details. BTW, there are real restrooms at this campground, but not much more.

I am looking forward to a spectacular trip, canoeing under the moon to
our campsite on the Hodenpyle.
