Where: Grayling, MI
Canoes from Rays on the Ausable. aka Troutbums.
What: Two day - 72 Miles of the Upper Manistee.  From M-72 bridge West of Grayling to the Smithville Bridge at M-66
When: April 22 - 23
The Raison: This early trip will allow us to see Michigan wildlife that you would never see during the summer and the aluminum hatch.  If the weather is right, we may even get an early hatch: Black Stonefly, Caddis or Mayfly.  If you have never seen or been in a hatch, you can't understand what an awesome sight it is.  The majority of this trip is through the Pere Marquette forest and its very quiet and pristine.  This is one of my favorite trips.
Conditions: There is potential for some ugly weather and low temps.  We will be camping ON the river at night in tents.  This is a LONG trip.  We will want to be on the water early... with little time for stopping along the way to lolly-gag.  This is a marathon trip - We will have to work in-order to be off the river by dark on Sunday - and home in a reasonable time.  This trip is not for the meek, weak or nervous.
The Details: We will be camping Friday night at the Lake  Margrethe State campground on the West side of Lake Margrethe off of M-72.  Its a few miles West of town.  Hopefully, we will be up in town for dinner at Spike's Keg-O-Nails bar

Saturday morning we will catch breakfast in town early -- 7AM, then head to Rays for a departure time of 9AM... that's the earliest he opens.

We camp on the river Saturday night, and then arrive at the M-66 bridge to be picked up and returned to our waiting cars at Rays.
