50th Anniversary
Houghton, Michigan
January 22-23rd

See The Pictures!!

We will be heading up on Friday, January 21st to set up camp at Paddle Brave Campground in Roscommon, Michigan.  We will spend January 22nd ice fishing on Houghton Lake and reconnoitering in the beer tent for refreshments, mayhem and general chaos.  After the beer tent closes, we will gather at the ice fishing hole and then head back to our cabins for an evening by the fire in an old cabin along the shore of the South Branch AuSable River.

Once again I apologize for hurting your knee Todd. Didn't think you would go down as easy as you did. :)

OK, the dust has settled, everyone has caught their breath, and the memories come roaring back like an avalanche.

The toe sucking was real, right? I couldn't just dream that up ... well maybe I could ...

The truck is a real truck now, that is the only way I can look at it.

I am only good at putting the ice in the Yuk-Yuk jug, I am no good at putting the necessary motion into the jug.

I really need to take that Friday off to drive up earlier so that I have more gas in the tank Saturday night.

I need to strap a lighter to the side of the torch for cold weather conditions (my knuckles are roasted).

We should put a cookbook together, then we can all make millions and retire and do this everyday!

Thanks for sharing time because it is your most prized possession...

Last weekend was awesome. I hate to give too many details about our trip... you really need to join us sometime to see what it was like. Friday night was great with people slowly arriving and unpacking. It was cold as heck... -17 according to the gauge on Matt's new Tahoe [mattshoe]. We got up for breakfast in town at Baum's AuSable River Cafe for good food and terrible service... then packed up and headed for Tip-up Town. After unmentionable chaos in town, we finally made it to TUT. We watched the crazy Polar Bear swimmers jump through a hole in the ice... wearing trunks or bikinis; Darrin, Beckie, Todd and Jennifer went for a helicopter flight over the lake.. and then hit the beer tent.

The beer tent was bigger and better than ever. Packed to the rafters, it took 20 minutes to push yourself through the crowd for a beer... but Todd, hooked up as usual, and got a corner where they were serving Captains and Coke for free. So we made ourselves comfortable, enjoyed the band and made friends with the people nearby whom we were sweating on.

After we closed the beertent, we the guys had a wrestliing match back to the Tahoe. We arrived back at the cabin and immediatley started to cook our feast for the night and kicked up a big fire in the fireplace. We had smoked venison, BBQ venison, fried perch, walleye and smelt, fresh rabbit, cheesy potatoes, mashed potatoes and chili. Everything was delicious... and we generally pigged out. Todd's father joined us and had a pretty good time.

After we cleaned up, we played a short hand of drinking UNO, which I won but refused to run naked around the cabin... Then a jug of Yuk-Yuk was passed around.. until Matt got his hands around it... and well, lets just say it was fortuneate for us all that we did not finish the jug. Afterall, Todds father called Yuk-Yuk - Jail Juice, because someone usually ends up on Jail after finishing a jug.

So, we eventually headed our seperate ways to our cabins.. and slept like babies in the warm dark cabins. in the morning (Sunday), large snow flakes added another inch or two, and we packed up and left for Windsor to visit Mad Dog.

Another great trip folks. Thanks a lot for coming... can't wait for next year.

Scott.

I had a great time this past weekend! The weather was perfect! But the best was all the drinking on Saturday night. I definitely won't forget it, either. Except for maybe the licking of toes...... but then again, I do have pictures!!! :) Can't wait until we can go on another trip!

I am soory to say that Ed and I my be forced to miss this weekend. It is with a sad heart that I say this. Ed is in Virginia and will probably not come back until Saturday afternoon, when hopefully the Navy buys his software. On top of this flights will not go out if the wind chill factor keeps dropping. Us Georgia people just do not know what to do with cold weather. If we can not make it we will miss you all so much and for sure make the first canoe trip. Laura

Hi, I'm from OCC's helpdesk- Darrin knows who I am. I will be there but I'll be staying at our cottage on the east side of Higgins lake. I'll be lookin for you guys ( and gals) though. Tip-up Town is a friggin riot. I'll be drinking BEER though- I hope that's not a problem for anyone. We'll be renting snow-mobiles too and having big bon-fires. You all are welcome to stop by.

P.S. I'm very interested in your fall salmon trips so if you do it again next fall I hereby invite myself.

Yo brother....this sounds like a blast. Sadly, I have missed the past few years so I would like to make it to this "epic" occasion. Right on with the web site bro.

I can't believe you have people bailing out of this weekend 'o fun. What's wrong with everybody. What... you already have plans? Come on! What more could you want out of a weekend.....fun, food, friends, and beer....plus I'll challenge anyone to one of those polar bear swims. Bring on the cold!

Hello... This is the first message on the message board for Tip-up Town 2000. I spent 3 hours working on this damn thing Sunday evening so you had all better sign in and let me know if you are planning on attending this epic adventure. Although the weather may be frightful, the cabins and campfires will be toasty. So you have no excuse for not coming. Hope to hear from you all.!!
