We hope this email finds you all well. We were happy to have the opportunity
to serve you all this past year. We look forward to making next year even better
for you.

This email is to let you know that our Season Recap Newsletter, 2003 Brochures, and the Newspaper Articles written about Bear Lake this year have been posted to our website at http://www.blwc.com/

Please forward this email to anyone in your group that we inadvertantly omitted or anyone that you think might be interested in staying with us.

We were fortunate this year that two major Outdoor Columnists chose to stay and write about their experiences at Bear Lake Wilderness Camp. We had:

Gary Garth from the Louisville Courier-Journal and Field and Stream
Eric Sharp from the Detroit Free Press.

Their articles are posted to our website under an icon called “2002 Honorable Mention”.

We had a great year this year that was full of challenges. It started and ended with inclement weather as we opened camp and inclement weather as we closed the camp. Nevertheless we had a great year. Our newsletter will tell you about the big ones that didn't get away and our Bear Hunt.

Fishing
The fluctuating water levels were one of the challenges we faced. The damn to our North was being rebuilt. In one 24 hour period we lost all of our docks. The fluctuating water levels messed with the water temperatures and in turn pushed the bass spawn back a few weeks. It made for great lake trout fishing, but it definitely pushed bass fishing back a few weeks.

Bear Hunting (Only 18 hunts left!)
It was a season of surprises. We were extremely happy with certain aspects of our Bear Hunt this year. The baiting methods and the addition of trail timers were a good decision. We will try to find something more durable; as several of the bears ate our trail timers.

Additionally, the hot temperatures were a challenge and we didn’t get any relief until mid September. The temperature was a good 15-20 degrees warmer than it should have been. Still, we were very impressed with our bow hunters. So next year, we are going to offer two full weeks of “Bow Hunting Only” prior to opening with four weeks of Gun.

Moose Hunt
Many of our guests have been asking about Moose Hunts. We have been able to get some more Moose Tags for the 2003 Season. We will offer a Gun Hunt October 5th -15th for a group of one - four hunters. We will offer these tags and hunt to our customers first.

Starting January 10th, they will be marketed to the General Public. So if you are interested, please give us a call or email us. Deposits are essential for holding the reservation for the Moose Hunt.

2003 Season Packages & Specials
We have had to adjust our prices up slightly to meet the additional costs of our Land Resource Agreement with the MNR and the rising costs of gasoline, propane, and insurance. This is the first increase that we have had in three years. In fact, when we took over the camp we lowered many of the prices. Bear Hunts were $1,495 we have lowered them and kept them at $1,195. Our fishing trips will rise a little but we will hold the line on all the other prices.

We will again offer our popular Pike & Walleye Special and many of our specials. The “In Harm’s Way Discount” and the “Organizer Fishing Special” will also remain in place. There has to be some reward for the thankless job right, and as always, children under 14 are free (when accompanied by an adult).
